New Sketchbook

Starting a new sketchbook is a bit of an event for me. There is something sad but satisfying about finishing the one before. And then when starting the new one there is so much potential but all those empty white pages can also be quite intimidating. Whenever I start a new sketchbook I usually start off really ambitious. I want every new drawing to add to the feel and character of the book, but then a few pages in I start to loosen up. Here is how my latest sketchbook started out:

I've been drawing lots of monsters recently . . . this is partially because I love monsters, but also because of the passing of Maurice Sendak. While I loved many of Maurice Sendak's books, Where the Wild Things Are has always been my favorite. Below are some more monsters . . . um, I mean kids. I think several of them are keepers for projects and books.
