Awesome Scanners Unite!

I am looking into upgrading my scanner to an awesome large format scanner . . .  The problem is there are A LOT of potentially awesome and potentially not so awesome scanners out there.  I kinda want the awesome one.

So here's where you come in . . .  Do you have any advice on what scanner I should get?  What have you learned from your own experience?

Do unicorn coasters help?
Thanks for the input!
Ben

  2. When I have to scan large drawings, I go to my nearby art college, where they have an Epson Expression 10000XL Graphic Arts Scanner (http://amzn.to/LgAGlv). It's the same one I use at my work back then. Great scanner, super expensive for personal use...

I myself use a regular Epson Perfection V500 Scanner (http://amzn.to/QYbP4r), which has been working great. If I don't have time to run over to the art college("Deadlines~!"), I scan my artwork using my own scanner and use "Photomerge" in Photoshop to do the trick. It also works well. :)

In both cases, I still do a little color tweaking in Photoshop once scanned, but the overall quality is very nice.

I think many comic artists use the Mustek Scanners. Haven't used it myself, so I can't say, esp. when it comes to color quality.

Best of luck scanner hunting! I love the unicorn drawing, btw! So lovely~

    1. Thank you for the scanner advice! This really helps. I've been considering the Epson Expression 10000XL, but have been hesitant because of how much it costs. I'm thinking it might be what I go with, though. Thanks again!

  3. Hey Ben! I have an Epson GT-20000, and I like it a lot! It scans color accurately, and the larger format is wonderful. I've never had any problems with it. If you have any specific questions about it, just let me know! :)

    1. Hmmm . . . the GT-20000 would be a nice option because it is 1000 less than the Expression 10000XL. Decisions! Decisions. Thanks, Brooke!
